THE LANDING DANCE CENTRE’S SUMMER (UN)INTENSIVE
This Summer (Un)Intensive is created to challenge and inspire dancers in their pursuit for excellence. As the name suggests, this training program can be both physically and mentally challenging, yet has an accessible approach where dancers will explore new movement forms and genres, teaching methodologies and learning environments. Dancer will also participate in collaboration and team appreciation exercises and strategies to build elite performance and confidence. While the technical information provided is detailed, the (fun)intensive atmosphere is primed for creative thinking beyond the steps including the impact of musical phrasing, the manipulation of space and the impact of production including objects, props, costumes and lighting and the ways we can communication and express with and without words. Dancers will also explore influential names in the dance world and their historical impact in current society.
This is an excellent opportunity for dancers to continue their training in the summer and dance with new people. Throughout the week, our talented faculty will mentor each dancer in the search of what is necessary for them to push forward to reach their next level.
Days will be split into two sessions, separated by a break for lunch. The morning sessions will consist of technique classes in varying styles, where the afternoon sessions will rotate between choreography, artistic exploration and performance coaching. Styles covered will include Ballet, Contemporary, Modern, Tap and Jazz, among many others.
Groups will be organized based on age, experience, and registration. *A minimum of 2+ year dance experience is recommended to participate in The Landing Dance Summer Intensive; however, age and minimum training year exceptions can apply, please contact us.

Amy Burns || Tap
Amy has trained and performed extensively in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Modern Contemporary & Lyrical Jazz from a very young age, and has been teaching and choreographing Tap full-time for 21 years throughout the Lower Mainland, Northern B.C. (Smithers) and annual Summer School programs on Vancouver Island. She has a long list of accomplishments and award-winning competitive performances in Canada and the U.S. In July of 2009, it was with great excitement that she and 22 of her students participated in the “New York City Tap Festival” where they trained with world-renowned Masters and by audition, were chosen to perform their award-winning routines “Off Broadway” to a sold-out theatre. That evening Amy was honored with being chosen as the recipient of the “2009 NYC Tap Festival Outstanding Teacher/Choreographer Award” for her “Outstanding Dedication and Commitment to the Art of Tap Dancing”. Amy is one of the original members of Vancouver’s “URBAN TAP SQUAD”.
It is Amy’s desire to share with her students, her diversified training, technique, musicality and rhythm, and most of all, her genuine love and passion for Tap Dance. With her love of teaching children of all ages and adults, she foremost encourages fun and embracing the love and joy of “Tap”, with patience and positivity. She teaches and encourages her students to “un-tap” the joy of this wonderful instrument and music within them and to truly hear and articulate their own “joyful noise”.
