Angela Mousseau
Angela Mousseau is an independent contemporary dance artist based in Victoria, BC, Canada, where she lives and works on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen peoples (Esquimalt and Nations). Born and raised in Victoria, Angela has been teaching Contemporary and Modern dance for over 20 years. She majored in modern dance at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2002, with a focus on Horton, Limón, and Taylor techniques. During her time there, she trained under esteemed faculty and guest artists from companies including The Paul Taylor Company, The Limón Dance Company, PHILADANCO, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, The Martha Graham Dance Company, Koresh Dance Company, and MOMIX. Angela's performance career has taken her to both Philadelphia and New York City, with appearances at the Philadelphia and New York Fringe Festivals, National Dance Day in Philadelphia, and performances with The Next Stage Project (directed by Jana Hicks) and AKRNYM Dance Company in NYC.
After several years of travelling between Canada and the U.S. to train and perform, she returned to Victoria in 2007 and began focusing more deeply on teaching and choreography. Many of Angela’s students have gone on to dance with leading ballet and contemporary companies across North America and Europe. She has been invited to participate in multiple Choreographic Residencies at Dance Victoria. Her original works were showcased during Rough Cuts at the Metro Theatre in January 2018 and February 2020. Most recently, in February 2024, she presented her work-in-progress Objects in Mirror are Closer than they Appear during Dance Victoria’s residency program, as part of Intrepid Theatre’s OUTstages Festival. Angela continues to pursue professional development, having trained in Countertechnique with Charles Slender White (Artistic Director of FACT/SF in San Francisco) and with the internationally renowned Trisha Brown Dance Company in New York. Deeply passionate about mentoring the next generation of contemporary dance artists, Angela is committed to fostering strong technical foundations while encouraging dancers to discover and express their own unique voices.
